Albert B. “Al” Cordray, 80, of Zanesville, passed away October 16, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in Newark, OH.
He was born April 17, 1937 in Columbus, OH, son of the late, Creed J. Cordray and Nellie F. Crabbe Cordray. He was a veteran in the United States Air Force, former Zanesville Council Member of the first ward and first Republican elected to that seat. He was also a self-employed roofer, painter, a lay minster and preacher and founding member of the Potters House Church. Al never met a stranger and always rooted for the underdog. He had a great sense of humor, wit, and was a GREAT story teller.
He is survived by his wife of almost 27 years, Debra Krause Cordray; daughters, Justina Cordray, Ellee (Larry) Koenig; sisters, Cecilia McClaskey, Sharon (Oscar) Crum; sister-in-law, Barbara Daugherty; grandchildren, Ryan, Dustin, Nathan (Casey), Kyle (Tara), Aaron (Jenny), Treasure, Brittney, Nick (April), Emilee (Izeke), Eli; several nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and another great-grandchild on the way; fur buddies -Higgins and Marshall.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Romona Williams Cordray; son, Creed Cordray; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Cordray ; daughter, Angela Cordray; brothers, Creed, Harry, George, William Cordray, James, Richard Daugherty; sister, Ruthann Cordray Balling.
Calling hours will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Faith Christian Center, 4200 Boggs Rd. Zanesville, OH 43701 with Pastor Richard Gatten and Pastor Aaron Wahl officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the United States Air Force in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29.
