Violet "Vi" Wallace Obituary

Violet “Vi” Wallace, 97 of Zanesville, was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior, on July 10, 2025, at Altercare Nursing Home of Zanesville.

She was born on June 22, 1928, in Orma, West Virginia, daughter of the late Dewey Cottrell and Lillie (Newman) Cottrell. Vi was an entrepreneur and opened several restaurants in West Virginia, Ohio, South Carolina, and Florida. She had a love for cooking, fishing, BINGO, and throwing darts. She was the monarch of the family, an amazing and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Her greatest pride was her family. She was a devoted Christian, putting God first in her life and instilled God’s love and salvation to her family and friends. She was an inspiration to all that knew her and was admired by many for her love, kindness, and  her hard work. She touched the lives of so many people, always willing to lend a helping hand and an open door for anyone needing a place to stay.  

Vi is survived by her brother, Calvin Cottrell; 3 children: Louis (Kathryn) Wallace , Charlie (Julie) Wallace, and Tammie Lizon; 2 step-sons: Brian (Becky) Wallace and Paul (Tammy) Wallace; loving niece, whom she claimed and raised as her second daughter, Vicky (Danny) Long; 18 grandchildren: Terra (Jonathan) Dunn, James Key-Wallace, David (LeAnn) Key-Wallace, Lisa Chappelle, John Wallace, Ian Wallace, Sara Wallace, Justin (Tammy) Guseman, Felicia Wallace, Michael Wallace Jr., Amanda Wallace, Autumn Wallace, Erica (Chris) Crawford, Lisa (Mark) Sayre, Kristina (Gary) Fannin, Matthew (Sarah) Hall, Ashley (Erick) Barrett, Joey (Megan Roghelia) Lizon; 29 great-grandchildren: Tristen, Aiden, Anna, David, Oliver, Abigail, Gabriel, Rosie, Heather, Tyler, Mckenzie (Nariah), Bella, Kenneth, Cysily, Presley, Hope, Violet, Esign, Levi, Lincoln, Sawyer, Slater, Asher, Katie, Avery, Ryleigh, Elijah, Isaiah, Serenity, and Logan; 2 great great grandchildren, Brinlynn and Kali; special caregivers, Dekota Szoke, Michelle Moody, Maggie Cordle, Deanna Woodruff, Sydney Norris, Angie Senff; special niece, Pam Waldie; best friend, Wanda Sharrer; special sons-in-laws, Mike Hall and Tom Lizon; special nurse, Debbie Hurst; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons, Luke Easter Wallace and Michael Wallace; 4 brothers: Haymond Cottrell, Raymond Cottrell, Jr. Cottrell, Bernard Cottrell; 3 sisters: Nora Woods, Alberta Stump, and Jean Trail; 1st and 2nd husband, Perley Wallace and Howard Hanna.

The family would like to sincerely thank Absolute Hospice for the special care given to Vi.

Calling hours will be held on Monday July 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Steve Harrop officiating. Burial will conclude services at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
