Shirley A. Bateson, 92 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on January 20, 2024, at the Genesis Morrison House.
She was born on March 23, 1931, in Zanesville, Ohio, daughter of the late Harrell Maxwell and Julia (Wheeler) Maxwell. Shirley graduated from South Zanesville High School in 1949. She was a bookkeeper for David Davies for many years and later retired from Farm Credit/Production Credit. After retirement, she worked at West Side Market in Zanesville. In her spare time, she enjoyed bird watching and making her quilts.
Shirley is survived by her 4 children: Susan King, Beth Bateson-Adams, Tom (Christy) Bateson, Bill (Laura) Bateson; sisters, Dorothy Brown, Delores Pickrell, Marilyn Harrigan; grandchildren, Ryan Allen, Kurt Allen, Kyle King, Clayton Bateson, Courtney Davis, Beau, Luke, Chase, and Paul Bateson, Allyson Sears, Karlie Carpenter, Matthew Church; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Bateson; 5 siblings; great-granddaughter, Gracie Bateson; son-in-law, Michael Adams.
Per Shirley’s wishes, no calling hours or services will be held. A caring cremation will be held by DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home.
