Phillip J Smith

Phillip J. Smith, 68 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on December 12, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Newark, Ohio.

He was born on June 30, 1957, in Milledgeville, Georgia, son of the late Carl Vincent Smith and Elizabeth (Chambers) Smith. Phil worked several years as a Heavy Equipment Operator and as a Painter. He enjoyed hunting, playing pool, and watching NASCAR. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandson, Jaxon, and many other loved ones.

Phil is survived by his 4 children: Brittney Smith, Phillip Smith, Angel Austin, and Ashley Avery; 3 grandchildren: Jaxon Swingle, Elijah Smith, and Miley Kovack; special friends, Tasha Johnson; and many other friends and family members.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Carl Smith; special dogs, Bear and Elvis.  

Calling hours will be held on Thursday December 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home. A dignified cremation has been entrusted to DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home following visiting hours.
