Mary Ellen Johnson

Mary Ellen (VanWey) Johnson, 96 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024, at the Oaks at Northpointe Nursing Home in Zanesville, Ohio.

She was born on July 18, 1927, in New Lexington, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank VanWey and Midge (Brown) VanWey. Mary was a Methodist by faith. She worked at Nelson McCoy in Pottery for many years. Mary enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing BINGO in her past time. She loved watching her hummingbirds. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and loved ones.

She is survived by her 7 children: Karla Johnson, Glenn Johnson, Steve Johnson, Nancy Sheridan, Cheryl Johnson, Daryl Johnson, and Jay Johnson; special granddaughter, Deana Anders; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Johnson; son, Michael Johnson; daughter, Peggy Johnson; brothers, Frank VanWey, Johnny VanWey, Raymond VanWey, Eddie VanWey; sisters, Thelma Newlon, Nancy Toth, Ocie Russell, Annie Harris; grandchild, Brent Ryan; and special dog, Buffy.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday June 23, 2024, from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the American Legion in Zanesville, Ohio, to Celebrate the Life of Mary.
