Marilyn Seymour Obituary

Marilyn Louise Briggs Seymour, 93 of Zanesville, departed this life on December 29, 2021.

She was born on March 28, 1928, in Zanesville, daughter of the late Forrest and Pearle Martin Briggs.

She is survived by 9 nieces and nephews: Kaye (Jim) Blanton, John (Chris) Briggs, Pam (Keith) Slotter, Randy (Deanna) Briggs, Doug (Ann) Briggs, Gary Briggs, Kerry Lear, Beth (Bill) Gehlken, and Brian (Erin) Briggs.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Weldon Seymour; brothers, John and Stanley Briggs; sister, Virginia Landman; and two nephews, Jim Landman and Tim Briggs.

Marilyn graduated from Lash High School. She later attended 5 years at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where she earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Degrees. At the Conservatory, she became affiliated with the Professional Music Fraternity for Women-Sigma Alpha Iota, serving two years as Chapter President. Following graduation, she founded a private music studio near Oak Ridge Tennessee, always the performing artist and teacher.

Marilyn had a lifetime interest in the world around her and travel was her passion. Some trips were in group travel, but going on her own or with a friend was her true joy. Her love for travel took her to Mexico, Europe, Greece, Russia, New Zealand, Australia, and various cruises; but a special highlight was a month in Southeast Asia, flying to Singapore and exploring Malaysia and Indonesia (including Bali).

Marilyn considered traveling an “investment” and her investment brought her great returns. She was frequently asked “What was your best trip?” Her answer was always the same- “the last one”. She now embarks on her final last trip.

The family would like to thank Shriver Hospice and the staff at Clay Gardens Place for the compassionate care they gave Aunt Marilyn.
