Kay V. Abbott, 81, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on February 19, 2026, at her family’s home.
She was born on June 6, 1944, in Muskingum County, daughter of the late Oscar Newton and Virginia (Frye) Newton. Kay worked at Essex Wire for 20 plus years and later at Dollar General Warehouse. Kay never met a stranger, loved traveling, taking trips to Florida, and gambling at Casinos. She enjoyed selling merchandise at county fairs and flea markets in her spare time.
Kay is survived by her 2 children: Michael (Maria) Johnson and Larry (Brenda) Johnson; significant other, David Madison; sister, Bonnie (Bill) Kenworthy; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 2 husbands; daughter, Tammy Thomas; son, Troy Johnson; and brother, Howard Newton.
Calling hours will be held on Monday February 23, 2026, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will be held at 6:00 PM with Rev. Darren Tolbert officiating. A dignified cremation will take place following services. Kay will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park with her late husband, John Abbott.
