"Junior" Samuel F. (Jr.) Layton

“Junior” Samuel F. Layton Jr., 74 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 23, 2021 at his residence.

He was born on August 10, 1947, in Zanesville, son of the late Samuel F. Layton Sr. and Gertrude Griffin Layton. Jr. was a Vietnam veteran of the Navy, serving from 1965-1968. Later he worked at Ohio Department of Transportation for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time in the garage with his best friend, Dave.

He is survived by his daughters, Agnes (Clint) Bash, Samantha (Mark) Miller; sister, Marie Davis; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; best friend, Dave Thompson; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Layton, Charles Layton; sisters, Mildred Huey, Patricia Yantz, Bertha Frame; brother-in-law, Joe Davis; and very close friend, Kenny Davis.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday October 26, 2021 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home. Services will take place at 1:00 PM, where burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29.
