Joy Marion Smith

Joy Marion Smith, 90 of New Concord, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on March 4, 2025, at her residence.

She was born on July 8, 1934, in Braintree, England, daughter of the late Stanley Arthur Humphries and Mable Ellen Gardwood. Joy attended the United Methodist Church in New Concord. She was known to be a great cook and a very loving MiMi. Joy loved her puzzles, listening to country music, playing scrabble, cards with friends, and knitting baby blankets. She enjoyed vacationing with her husband every winter to their home in Florida. Above all, her family and grandchildren were her greatest blessings.

Joy is survived by her 4 children: Richard “Dick” (Vickie) Smith, Jeffrey (Traci) Smith, Kenny (Vicki) Smith, Claire (Antony) Marrian of Cambridge, England; sister, Judith “Judy” Ann Ferdiando; 6 grandchildren: Brandon (Ashley) Smith, Dillon Smith, Bryce Smith, Bryan Smith, Micah Smith, Cash Smith; daughter in law, Mindy Smith;  special friend, Mabel Ratliffe; several nieces, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold “Dick” Smith; 2 sons: David Smith, Chuck Smith; grandson, Landon Smith; sister, June Margaret Blackwood; brother-in-laws, Robert “Bob” Ferdiando and Jack Blackwood.

The family would like to give a sincere thanks to Genesis Hospice and caretakers, Janet and Carol, for their care provided for Joy.

Per Joy’s wishes, no calling hours or services will be held at this time. A dignified cremation has been entrusted to DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home.
