James (Jim) Swingle Obituary

James (Jim) Walter Swingle, 93, made his transition from this life on April 29, 2021, three days shy of his 94th birthday, and exactly five months after his wife Sally Teresa Swingle made her transition on November 29, 2020.  He and Sally were married for 42 years. They had resided at The Inn at Winchester Trail in Canal Winchester, Ohio since 2015.

Jim was born on May 2, 1927 in Crooksville, Ohio to the late Georgia Watts Swingle and Walter Swingle.  He graduated from Crooksville High School in 1945.  He had a long career in the banking industry, starting in 1945 as a teller at The First Trust and Savings Bank in Zanesville.  He then worked as a Bank Examiner for the State of Ohio, then as the Managing Officer of Roseville Federal Savings and Loan Association, and lastly as a Savings and Loan Examiner for the State of Ohio until he retired in 1993.  He and Sally then moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for several years, and returned to Ohio in 2010.

Jim liked to watch TV: his favorite things to watch included golf, football, baseball, basketball, PBS (especially Lawrence Welk), The Price is Right, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune.  He also had quite a sweet tooth, with a particular fondness for malted milk balls and various types of hard candy.  He participated in bowling leagues when work did not require him to be away from home overnight, and spent a few years as a Little League baseball coach.  He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed hearing and telling jokes.

Jim is survived by seven children: Christy (John) Totten; Tim Swingle; Steve (Anita) Swingle; Jon Swingle; Chauncey (Becky) Morey; Joanne (Paul) Barnhart; and Grant (Nancy) Morey.  He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  In addition to his wife Sally, he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jean Swingle Cann (husband Charles Cann).

The family would like to thank the staff of The Inn at Winchester Trail, Capital City Hospice, and Ohio Living Hospice for the excellent care provided to Jim.

In accordance with Jim’s wishes, a cremation has been arranged by DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home in Zanesville.  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting https://www.delongbakerlanning.com/obituary/JamesJim-Swingle
