George “Smoke” F. Purdum Jr., 86 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2022 at Genesis Morrison House of Zanesville.
He was born on August 5, 1935, in Zanesville, son of the late George F. Purdum Sr. and Emma Haughton. George was a veteran of the Army and a member of the Cornerstone Full Gospel Church in Duncan Falls. He worked in the Operating Engineer’s Union for over 50 plus years; working with L.R. Skelton Construction, American Electric Power, C.M Luburgh, and the George P. Freuh Company. In his spare time, George loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly Purdum; son, Doug (Barbara) Purdum; daughter, Shirley Michaels; sister, Donna Waxler; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, William (Shirley Purdum, Robert Purdum, Thomas (Patricia) Purdum, Ronald Purdum, and brother-in-law, Carl Waxler.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday July 13, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home. Services will be held on Thursday July 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Harrop officiating. Burial will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery in Zanesville, Ohio.
