Dorothy Eleanor Riggle

Dorothy Eleanor Riggle, 94 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022, at the Morrison House of Zanesville, Ohio.

She was born on April 3, 1928, in Zanesville, Ohio, daughter of the late John Church and Emma (Lloyd) Church. Dorothy was the owner of the Mt. View Convalescent Home in Wytheville, Virginia, and Boyd’s Nursing Home in Boyds, Maryland. She later went to school at Wytheville Community College where she received her RN Degree. She was a member of The Zanesville Seventh-Day Adventist Church. In her spare time, she loved to play the piano, sew, and cook. Above all she loved her family and witnessing for her church.  

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (James Raymond Jr.) Shoemaker; sons, John (Evelyn) Steen Jr., James Stone; brother, Earl (Mary) Church; sisters, Mary McFeters, Juanita Epping; grandchild, Raymond Shoemaker; life-long friend, Charmaine Bainum; church friend, Diane Stewart; and special dog, Olivia.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her latest husband, Vernon Riggle; first husband, John Steen Sr.; brother, Harry Church; sister, Margaret Malone; and sister-in-law, Gladys Church.

A Memorial Service in honor of Dorothy will be held on Tuesday December 27, 2022, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1:00 PM.
