Dorothy Lawyer Obituary

Dorothy June Lawyer, 96 of Zanesville, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2021, from complications related to Covid-19. She was an inspiration to her entire family, to whom she dedicated her entire life.

June was a proud native of Cleveland, Ohio, where she was born on July 12, 1925. She was one of eight children born to Garry and Stella (Harrison) Dady. June married her husband, Bernard Lawyer, in 1945, raising three sons, Bob (Lisa) of New Orleans, John (Katie) of Austin, and Rick (Cindy) of Zanesville. Her husband, Bernard, passed away on December 20, 1986.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Josh and (Amy) Marie, Jeremy (Lisa) Marie, all of New Orleans. Schuyler Lawyer of Atlanta, Stuart (Anna) Lawyer of Los Angeles, Casey Lawyer of Santa Clara, CA, Paul (Jackie) of Rowlett, TX, Allison (Brady) Palmer of Zanesville, and Clay Lawyer of Zanesville; great-grandchildren, Gillian Marie of New Orleans, Rachel and Christian Lawyer of Rowlett, TX, Maya Lawyer of Los Angeles, Jack Stevens of Prairieville, LA, and Mack and Macy Palmer of Zanesville; her younger sister, Florence Darner of Zanesville.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Eugene, Merle, Bob, Jim, and Bill, all of Zanesville; sister, Irene Neff of Crooksville.

June retired in 1989 from Brockway Glass. During retirement, she enjoyed working on her crafts, working in the yard, painting, and traveling to visit family.

Her dedication to her family and friends was the central focus of her life. For many of us, she was the rock and beacon from which we gained support and wisdom.

The Lawyer family would like to give thanks to the staff at Genesis Hospital, who provided care and comfort to June in her final hours. The work these people do is heroic under difficult circumstances.

A huge thank you to June’s neighbor, Debbie Johnston, who provided her with countless hours of friendship, tons of goodies, and mutual support over many years. June was provided loving care by her niece, Judy Dale and nephew, Joe Schaumleffel. All of them gave their time and support to June and the family is very grateful. Finally, a special thank you to Rick’s wife, Cindy, who became like a daughter to June, spending countless hours with her.

Her sons considered themselves blessed to have been born and raised by this wonderful woman. She and Bernard, both born in poverty, earned everything they had. Though poor, their children were not aware of it, as their lives were filled with warmth, love, and humor. They would change nothing about their childhood.

We know there is a special place in heaven for June, and we know she is reunited with her family and friends who preceded her in death. And though our lives have an empty space within them, at this time, that space will be filled with countless loving memories of our life spent with her.

Bob, John, and Rick, give thanks from the bottom of their hearts to her for the love and support she gave them from birth until the day of her passing.
