Donald Everett Howell, of Philo, passed away on Sunday December 19, 2021 at the age of 90.
He was born on March 19, 1931, son of Charles H. and Zella McLain Howell. He attended Philo High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 until 1954, stationed in Japan. Upon honorable discharge, he transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve until 1960.
After honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he married Juanita E. Cronin on March 21, 1954. After almost 58 years of marriage, she passed away on January 17, 2012. He and his wife attended Central Trinity Church in Zanesville.
Don retired in 1996 from the Muskingum Area Joint Vocational School (MAJVS) as a bus driver and custodian after 25 years of service. He also was a former employee of the Ohio Ferro Alloy and Lime Material.
After his wife’s passing, he met Myrna Ross and they spent the next 8 years together. Don was an only child and had no children, but gained a big family in Myrna’s six children and her extended family.
Don is survived by Myrna Ross, her children and their families; Myra Beisser (Gary Head), Valerie (John) Durst, Teresa Schultheis (Phil Pryor), David (Jean) Ross, Kimberly (Michael) Hicks, and James (Holly) Ross. He is also survived by special friends, Bob and Linda Pletcher, Terry and Theresa Moore, Roger and Emma Bobo, the Davis family, several of his wife’s nieces and nephews and many friends from the Senior Center.
He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Juanita, in Duncan Falls Cemetery where Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday January 7, 2022 with Pastor Jim Adams officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Marines in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29.
