Charles "Sonny" M Hood Jr.

Charles “Sonny” Hood Jr., 63 of Zanesville, passed away unexpectedly on March 6, 2023, at his residence.

He was born on February 12, 1960, in Zanesville, Ohio, son of the late Charles (Lilly Sagel) M. Hood Sr. and Helen (Litten) Hood. Sonny worked for Burnham Boiler for many years, where he retired from. He later worked as an electrician for Glenn Electric. In his spare time, he enjoyed rebuilding his old cars, drag racing, deer watching, and building RC Cars. Most of all, he enjoyed his time spent with his family and grandchildren.  

He is survived by his wife of 42 ½ years, Jody Hood; children, Mikie (Jason) Bailey, Brandy (Josh) Rummell; grandchildren, Landon Hood, Ashton Hummel, Ashlynn Hummel ; special friends, Darrel Jones, John Kuhn, Dave Lichtner; sister-in-laws, Jovita (John) Spargrove, Mary Ann (Jim) Ford, Sheryl Hardwick; brother-in-laws, Richard Fenton, Charles (Betsy) Fenton, Clyde (Mary) Soller; step-sister, Kris Sagel Soller; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special dog, Smokey.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Dorothy and Richy Lovejoy; granddaughter, Chloe Hummel; sisters-in-laws, Sandra Hoy, Dottie (Donald) Benjamin, Vicky Orwig, Karen Fenton; and brother-in-law, Terry Hardwick.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday March 9, 2023, from 2:00 -4:00 PM & 6:00 – 8:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday March 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM with Pastor John Neff officiating. Burial will follow services at Heaven’s Gate Cemetery.
