Byron Wayne “Joe” Johnson

Byron Wayne “Joe” Johnson, 79, of Sonora, died at 3:45 p.m. December 1, 2017 at home, under the care and supportive staff of Interim Home Care and Interim Hospice Care.

He was born February 15, 1938 in Sonora, eldest son of the late, Byron A. Johnson and Mary E. Nolan Johnson.

Joe was a graduate of John Glenn High School. He was co-owner and operator of Johnson Bowers Memorials in Sonora, OH, until his retirement.  He was an avid Nascar fan and over the years, traveled to many races with friends and family.

He is survived by his three step-children, Daniel (Linda) Nolan, Karen (Ron) Rice, Kathryn (Mark) Kohler; sisters, Eileen Geniece Johnson, Phyllis June Johnson, Brenda (Larry) Whissel, Linda (Jay) McConnell; brother, William (Karen) Johnson; step-grandchildren, Ryan Nolan, Andrew Rice, Jessica Rice, Alexandria Long, Elizabeth Long and Samantha Long; sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Johnson, Mollie Hatfield; brother-in-law, Rudy (Suzy) Greiner; six step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; As well as numerous friends, including a special family friend Donna Wortman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Kay (Greiner) Johnson; brother, John W. Johnson; sister, Janet Hayhurst; sister-in-law, Marjorie Greiner Doubles.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will take place, Monday, December 4, 2017 at 12:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery Sonora, OH.
