William “Bill” R. Dunn, 91, of Zanesville, passed away February 10, 2017 at The Hellen Purcell Home.  DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.   

He was born May 1, 1925 in Zanesville, son of the late, William Marion Dunn and Ada L. Dusenberry Dunn.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII in the South Pacific on the U.S Nashville.  During his service to his country, he received the Bronze Star metal for his courageous efforts that saved the lives of his fellow crew members, while under attack by the Japanese kamikaze.  He worked in maintenance at Zanesville Metropolitan Housing, Maple Terrace Addition, retiring in 1991.     He was a former member of South Zanesville United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Punta Gorda, Florida.  He loved to fish in Florida and play cards.

 He is survived by his son, James Gary (Virginia) Buck of Ft. Myers, Florida; daughter, Karen Ann Garrett of Zanesville; five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ilice B. Dunn, whom he married, August 10, 1962; daughter, Darla Buck; brother, Bob Dunn, and an infant brother.

Calling hours will be held 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will take place at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Fowls officiating.  Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park with full Military honors by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29.
