I never watched TV or listened to the radio before Aunt Sammie. Sammie loved the Houston Oilers. I played backyard football until I broke my nose in my early 20's. I was irate when boys wouldn't tackle me or refused to play because I have a vagina. Aunt Sammie gave me confidence, strength, courage, and self respect. Because of Sammie I broke gender norms and expectations. She showed me the road to equality. She gave me her Mountain Dew. She gave me MTV!!! We watched "Guiding Light" The Young and The Restless" "As the World Turns" and "Bold and the Beautiful" She walked through the woods to the dirt road with me behind Grandma Marge's house. She let me sit in the driver's seat of her Pinto and pretend to drive. She pushed me to be independent when everyone else thought I was too young. She helped me become who I am today. Aunt Sammie was such a positive influence in my life. I am forever grateful. I'm praying for peace for everyone who knew and loved her. We have suffered a tremendous loss. May God bless and keep you, Aunt Sammie. You are loved and missed greatly by many. I love you so very much. You will never be forgotten.
