Gerald “Jerry” Alexander Ramsey, 89, of Zanesville, passed away February 20, 2018 at Genesis Morrison House.
Jerry was born January 31, 1929 in Evan City, PA. He is the son of the late Emma Henshaw Ramsey and Clyde Ramsey. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jerry served in the United States Army during WWII. He worked at David Davies, Jim Miller Texaco and Englefield Oil, where he retired in 1994. Jerry and his wife Donna were owners and operators of High Gate Trophy Shop for forty-two years.
Jerry had years of volunteer service: Perry Township Fire Department, member of the Mudcats Scuba Divers & Recovery Team, Boy Scout Master for twelve years, earning the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given by the local council. He also lead a group of scouts on expedition to the Philmont Scout Ranch, New Mexico in 1965. He was a 4-H leader of the Mustang Riders for twelve years. He was recognized as a “sideline staple” volunteering for John Glenn chain gang for fifty years. He gave his time to Perry Baseball & Softball field as an empire for years.
Jerry is survived by his daughters, Kathy Ramsey-Clark (Andy) of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Jeri Dawn (Gary) Hines of Zanesville; grandchildren, Kelly (Max) Maxwell, Kevin (Robin) Kelly, Karen Roberts, Adam Hines (Aimee Carpenter), Alexandria “Ali” (Dan) Matheney; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one step-brother, Dick Young of Ulysses, PA; one step-sister, Pat (John) Conable of Arvada, CO.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Donna June Ribble Ramsey, who passed away January 19, 2012; his daughter, Cheryl Ramsey; granddaughter, Dawn Whyde; brothers, Samuel, Donald, James, Robert; sisters, Sara, Lila, Sylvia; step-mother, Eleanor Ramsey and two step-brothers, Jack and Ted Young.
The family wishes to thank Interim Healthcare for their help and guidance. They would like also to thank a very-very special caregiver that was a blessing in a difficult time, Cindy Jones.
Jerry was a feisty-one of a kind, family and friends should come celebrate his life, Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 128 South 7th Street, Zanesville, OH 43701.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date. A dignified cremation has taken place.
